    History of Bidhannagar Commissionerate

    Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, established on 20th January 2012, is a police force with primary responsibilities in law enforcement and investigation within Bidhannagar or Salt Lake area, Northern and North-Eastern fringes of Kolkata.
    The Commissionerate is part of the West Bengal Police, and is under the administrative control of Home Ministry of West Bengal. It was formed after bifurcation of the North 24 Parganas Police District, and has nine police stations under its jurisdiction. Shri Gyanwant Singh, IPS, is the Commissioner of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.

    Structure and Jurisdiction

    The Police commissionerate is situated at Bidhannagar, and is divided into two divisions- Bidhannagar and Airport. The commissionerate is responsible for law enforcement over an area of 148 sqkm area with 10 police stations under it. The commissionerate is headed by the Commissioner of Police, Shri Gyanwant Singh, IPS, who is an Indian Police Service officer in the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP). There are one Joint Commissioner of Police, 3 Deputy Commissioners of Police and 3 Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police.
